Things to do-Bean Museum

Many of might not know about the Bean Life Science Museum located on BYU campus which is open to the public and has a plethora, that's right a plethora of fun activities, most of which are free and quite entertaining. We've gone with different families for FHE for the reptile show which is a hoot esp. seeing the live animals, you can always tour the museum and after looking at their calendar of events for the fall, whoah! There's a ton. My husband really liked it too, so you don't necessarily need to have kids along, they even have a special date night. You will have to visit the website for the address because I couldn't find one (BYU is the address) the best way I can describe is that it is on the street just south of the Marriot Center. Mondays: Reptiles at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.
Tuesdays: Adaptations at 7:30 p.m.
Wednesdays: Utah Animals and Plants at 7:30 p.m.
Thursdays: Ecosystems at 7:30 p.m.
Fridays: Invertebrates at 7:30 p.m.
Saturdays: Reptiles at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Reading Time: Wednesdays at 11:00 a.m.

Things To Do-Joaquin Park

About once a week, I will be listing fun things to do in Provo, sites to see in the area, etc. Hopefully, this will be helpful for those of you who might get the winter blues, for those of you new to the area, or for those of you like me, who are finally venturing out. A new park has emerged on 400 N and 400 E and it is a beauty. Jack and I take daily walks and have seen the location blossom under the breezy summer sky, slowly ever so slowly. I’m not even upset that it has taken the city three years to actually get going on the construction, but I will get upset if they don’t gut the rope down soon and let us all in. You’ll have to go see it, new playground equipment, park benches, grills, lush lawns, and according to the city’s web-site, Joaquin was the name of a 12 year old Indian boy who led some explorers around the area. And I just thought it was named after the attractive gone bizarre actor who is professes a career in hip hop.

Things to do-Provo Library

Located on 550 N. University. Truly a gem in Provo. I will be honest in saying that the interior does not remotely compare to the beauty of the architecture, but then I attended Book Babies story time and everything has changed. Everything. I think there must be tryouts for the story time leaders, and I mean intense tryouts. These girls truly had no inhibitions and the babies loved it. During the opening, “Leo the Lion” song, Jack was completely stunned. Literally, his mouth was gaping open and his body was completely frozen. He then looked at me and with his eyes said, “Mom, you need to work on your singing and dancing abilities, you have STIFF competition.”
You will not believe the amount of activities the library offers, they are more of a recreation center. (some listed below) Also, they have movies. Remember though, if you want a chance to check out a DVD not made prior to 1973, you will have to wait outside the “Book Drop” area where most of the other Mothers wait hovering with strollers in tow ready to sideswipe the cart lady who returns the videos. There is a little secret I recently found out while attending our RS Playgroup (Fridays at 11 a.m.), there is a stash of family DVD’s in the children’s section of the library. We’re talking the classic Disney movies like, “That Darn Cat,” and “The Nine Lives of Tomasina,” and other movies starring Hailey Mills, basically, all the movies they used to play twenty years ago on Sunday nights on Wonderful World of Disney. What, you’re not even twenty years old? And you weren’t allowed to watch television on Sunday? There’s just something about gathering around the old 14” television with orange Julius drinks and popcorn.

Spanish Story Time: for families, Friday morning from 10:30-11:00 (Story Room)

Book Babies: for babies 0-12 mos., Friday morning from 10:00-10:25 (Story Circle)

Mother Goose: for babies 13 mos.-24 mos., Friday mornings 11:00-11:20 and 11:30-11:50 (Story Circle)

Toddler Time: for 2 year olds, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10:10-10:30 and 11:00-11:30 a.m. (Story Circle)

Story Time: for 3-5 year olds, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00-10:30 and 11:00-11:30 (Story Room, they say you can’t be late and parents should go and read a People magazine cause it’s preschoolers only!)

There are also book clubs for pre-teens, teens, and adults, and a whole bunch of other activities on Friday nights (movie nights), etc. but I’m done typing so here is the link:

Things to do-Provo's Farmers Market

So I have lived in Provo for about 9 years and just recently discovered the Farmer’s Market about a month ago (pause, so I can hit myself repeatedly with a pillow). How can this have happened? All the fresh fruit and veggies and tasty food I just let slip through my fingers and all for often less than the grocery store prices. There are also stands for clothing, jewelry, tie-dyed everything, campaign tents, even palm-reading, and more and more! I know, clear your schedule and just go because it is about to end for the season. Another teaser, one stand even sells chocolate covered. . . frozen bananas. . .with nuts. A boy scout stand sells frozen yogurt for a $1. I know, just go and put the pillow down.

Season is from May to October, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays, Pioneer Park, 500 W. Center St.
